While green procurement can help reduce waste, some is inevitable. As businesses have a Duty of Care to dispose responsibly of waste it is sensible to reduce, reuse, recycle and dispose responsibly. Improve efficiency. Being more efficient will reduce costs and minimise waste.
Business’s can recycle too. Wealden offers business recycling collections for glass, cans, paper and cardboard.
Dispose responsibly. Legislation covers business waste disposal. Businesses have a Duty of care to take all reasonable steps to keep their waste safe and to dispose of waste correctly and responsibly.
Use Green procurement strategies. Look at current procurement and consider where environmental costs can be reduced. Buying in bulk will reduce the amount of packing used and often work out more cost effective. Avoiding products that are badly packaged will cut down on waste disposal costs.

Wealden District Council provides business recycling collections for glass, cans, paper and cardboard
Limiting our waste through our Green Purchasing Guide. Our green purchasing guide aims to help reduce waste by ensuring sustainability is considered by Council members and employees when purchasing. This includes making eco-friendly purchases, looking at durability and the life of products, and encouraging suppliers to use less packaging.
We buy recycled paper and recycle all our paper in our offices.Council Officers are provided with paper recycling bins rather than standard rubbish bins. A reduced number of communal rubbish bins are available in the offices to discourage waste.
