Smokefree Businesses

The 1st July 2007 was one of the most important dates in the history of public health and one year on most people now know about the ban on smoking in all enclosed public places.

According to the latest findings, 98 per cent of businesses believe they are compliant with the new law, 87 per cent of businesses said they thought implementation had gone well and 81% said the legislations is a "good idea". 40% of businesses have reported a positive impact on the company, compared with only 3% reporting a negative impact.

However, not everyone is sure how it affects their workplace, business or employees. For instance; were you aware that the corridors and stairs of all blocks of flats need to be smoke free? Did you know you will probably need planning permission for a smoking shelter in your beer garden?

These pages should help separate the fact from the myth.

You can also visit the External Link Smokefree England website for more information and research findings.
