Approved Food Premises

Although all food businesses need to register with their local authority, some types of food business need to submit an additional application form to become an Approved Food Business.

If your business is involved in the production of any of the foods listed below then you may need to apply to become an Approved Food Business:

Dairy Products
Egg Products
Egg Packing
Fish Products
Shellfish Purification
Meat Products
Minced Meat and Meat Preperation

How do I Apply?

By filling in the Food Approval Application Form (35kb) Approval is free. The application form must be sent to your local authority with the required additional documentation referred to in the application form.

Alternatively, because Approval of Food Businesses is covered by the European Services Directive, if you are registered on the Government Gateway you can Submit an Application Form Online using the UK Welcomes Service.

Once you have submitted your application form and accompanying documents to the local authority they will contact you to discuss your application in more detail and to inspect your premises.

Once you have been approved you will be inspected on a regular basis but you will need to notify your local authority of a change of food business operator, if the nature of the food business changes or if the business closes.

To inform us of a change to food business in Wealden you can either resubmit the Food Approval Application Form (35kb) or, if again if you are registered on the Government Gateway you can Notify us of the Change Online using the UK Welcomes Service
